County of Los Angeles Probation Department Approved Batterers' Program

If you have been court-ordered to a 52-week Domestic Violence program in Los Angeles County, California, the classes must be on the County of Los Angeles Probation Department Approved Batterers' Programs list distributed by the Court and are monitored by the Probation Department.
This is a link to the 2011 approved programs and will be updated for 2012 when it is released http://probation.lacounty.gov/PDF/ApprovedBP.pdf  A new list is updated every year and all approved programs must adhere to the law. Check penal code
www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html enter 1203.097, 1203.098.  Our Long Beach and El Segundo offices are on the County of Los Angeles Probation Department Approved 52-week Batterers' Intervention Programs list and the County of Los Angeles Probation Department Approved 52-week Child Abuse Intervention Programs list for 2011. If you are looking for a certified anger(behavior) management program, Options Counseling offers that service.  Be wary of operations presenting themselves as being "Court-Approved" for anger management.  BEWARE also of  unapproved domestic violence programs offering payment of all fees up front.  Further, there are absolutely NO legal "Online" court-ordered domestic violence programs that fulfill the requirements in California nor Los Angeles County Probation or Courts. There are many amazing facilitators in the agencies  listed on the probation approved list and we encourage  individuals to inquire to as many as you feel fit and find a match for your personal needs as a client. The bonds formed and cohesiveness of a group setting, including positive feedback and participation, are essential to success in making changes for a better life in personal and social relationships. In some unique circumstances, a person might benefit more from individual therapy.

Our Commitment

Picture
Here at Options Counseling,  we offer professional Domestic Violence group treatment for individuals who have been court ordered or choose to learn positive conflict resolution and communication. Our goal is to teach the tools that have been proven over 25 years to change behaviors which have led to negative outcomes and consequences. Our staff are trained to be sensitive, discreet and professional and the goal of our agency is to provide the highest quality of service.
We cover what many call "Anger Management", this name in it self seems to make the assumption that we manage or control our feelings or emotions. What we emphasize is the management of behavior associated with our feelings. We all have a moment of choice.  Without the tools to recognize that moment our choices can lead to severe consequences. Anger is a feeling and it is natural and healthy along with all the other emotions we feel.

What we offer at Options Counseling

At Options we offer a 52-week Domestic Violence group program which includes behavior management, drug and alcohol abuse, and positive parenting. There are separate classes designed for men and women.  Individual, couples, family, and child therapy is offered by Ellen Albertson, Ph.D., California licensed Marriage Family Therapist (MFT). We also offer parenting groups and are qualified to treat dual diagnosed individuals. At Options we are gay and lesbian friendly. We understand differences in ethnicity, cultures, and serve people from all walks of life. We view each person as a unique individual. We offer a probation approved 52-week parenting and child abuse program. No probation approved program is funded by any external source that I am aware of. There is a fee for the classes based on a sliding scale considering an individuals income. We strive to maintain a fair fee, while still being able to conduct business. You may contact us with any questions but please court ordered cases do so your self unless you need help understanding or have any limitations where an outside party would be helpful for you. As we need to talk to the individual who has the case for an evaluation to best suit your needs.

What to expect in the domestic violence/behavior management class

  1. The 52-week Domestic Violence enrollment involves a 1 to 1-1/2 hour intake to evaluate the client's needs. You need to bring your court paperwork, California id, and your intake fee.  Weekly fees are based on income.
  2. Success in our program requires participation, feedback to group members, learning positive conflict resolution, and attendance.
  3. Our program is psychoeducational which means that there is an educational component and there is a discussion component of what is going on in the members' lives. Our focus is not based on blame or judgment.  Men and women are helped to make better choices in order to take better care of themselves.
